OVERLAND PARK - Former Kansas Governor and candidate for governor Dr. Jeff Colyer released the following statement in response to the preliminary report on increased abortion rates in Kansas in 2020 and pro-abortion President Joe Biden stripping the bipartisan Hyde amendment from the FY 2022 budget proposal by the White House.

“Abortions in Kansas increased nearly 10% last year and there is only one person to blame. This is the direct result of Laura Kelly declaring abortion clinics essential even while she was closing churches, schools, and small businesses.

In addition to this appalling news, Laura Kelly’s allies have introduced a budget that caves to the extreme demands of the abortion industry, eliminating all limitation on abortion and requiring taxpayer funding of abortion. This is not who we are as Americans.

It is outrageous to hear that Biden’s new budget proposal stripped the bipartisan Hyde amendment, which is widely recognized as the greatest domestic abortion-reduction measure ever enacted by Congress. With this move, Biden has cemented himself as the most pro-abortion President in our lifetime and sent a message to the pro-life community that there is no room for them in the Democratic party.

The importance of passing the Value Them Both amendment in Kansas in 2022 grows each day Biden and Kelly hold office.”

Gov. Colyer: Kelly’s Veto of KU’s Stem Cell Research Center Funds Stifles Medical Innovation in Kansas

May 24, 2021

OVERLAND PARK - Former Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. today released the following statement regarding Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of a budget provision providing funding to the Midwest Stem Cell Therapy Center at KU Medical Center.

“Last week, Laura Kelly stifled medical innovation in Kansas by weakening our investment in medical research. This move limits the strength of Kansas health systems and sends the wrong signal to the national research community.

Neglecting years of research completed by KU Medical Center’s Midwest Stem Cell Therapy Center (MSCTC), Laura Kelly’s ill-considered line-item veto of $500,000 put patients of all types, including those with severe COVID-19 symptoms and other inflammatory diseases, at a major loss.

KU’s MSCTC has a national reputation as a leader in stem cell research using ethically-based adult stem cells. Preliminary data suggests that stem cell therapy treatments show promise for people with severe COVID-19 symptoms, though the treatment still requires a research trial — and funding for such trial. The $500,000 requested by KU’s MSCTC and stripped from the budget by Laura Kelly would have helped fund just such a trial.

These funds could easily be covered under the CARES Act funding from the federal government for the state to help fight the pandemic. Laura Kelly’s decision to veto this funding continues her trend of poor decisions and backward thinking that has been the calling card of her response to the pandemic. Let’s hope Kansas’ legislative leaders decide to fund this important research without delay and open the door for stem cell therapy to treat patients in Kansas and across the United States."

Gov. Kelly silent as Biden cancels Keystone pipeline and approves Russian pipeline to replace Kansas exports

MAY 20, 2021

Overland Park - Gov. Jeff Colyer, M.D. today called out Gov. Laura Kelly for her silence in protecting Kansas’ oil and gas industry.

“Oil and gas exports hold significant value for the Kansas economy. Still early in his term, President Biden has cut fracking, killed the Keystone pipeline, and proposed new plans and regulations that will hurt our existing Kansas small businesses, just a year after over one-third of our small businesses went belly up. Where’s Laura Kelly?”

“Yesterday, President Biden approved the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, allowing Russian gas to replace Kansas exports to Europe. Where’s Laura Kelly? Our Governor has been silent in defending the restoration of an economy she helped destroy.”

“Once again, Laura Kelly has put her allegiance to the Democratic Party ahead of her responsibility to Kansas. These anti-energy, anti-Kansas policies hurt our citizens and strengthen America’s enemies. Kansas deserves better.”

Kansas is a top 10 oil-producing state and accounts for almost 1% of total U.S. crude oil output. Over the past decade, the Kansas oil and gas industry supported 118,000 jobs, $3 billion in family income and $1.4 billion in state and local tax revenue. Data sourced from Kansas Dept. of Commerce.

U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall Endorses Gov. Jeff Colyer

Gov. Jeff Colyer formally announces campaign for Kansas Governor

April 19, 2021
Topeka - Today, Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. announces the formal launch of his campaign for Kansas Governor with a key endorsement from U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D.

“Kansans have an opportunity to change course and be a leader for conservative, pro-family, and pro-constitution values. Right now, we have a government that opens borders and closes schools, that tries to keep people from celebrating Easter together but declares abortion clinics essential, and that says convicted felons should have access to vaccines before law-abiding citizens with life threatening medical conditions. This is not who we are.” Gov. Jeff Colyer announced.

Sen. Marshall endorsed Gov. Colyer, saying: “Loyalty is in short supply these days and Jeff is the man we can count on to stay loyal to the traditional Kansas values we were raised on - I'm proud to endorse Jeff Colyer for Governor."

Gov Colyer calls on Gov Kelly to renounce her support for Gov Cuomo as NGA Chair, join him in calling on Gov Cuomo to resign

March 13, 2021
Overland Park - Former Kansas governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. calls on Governor Laura Kelly to renounce her support for Governor Andrew Cuomo as Chair of the National Governors Association after voting him into that position last year, and join Gov. Colyer in calling on Gov. Cuomo to resign from office.

It wasn’t long ago that Governor Kelly was on the campaign trail promising Kansans that she would #PressforProgress in wake of the #MeToo movement. Fast forward to 2021 and Gov. Kelly’s parallel, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has been accused of a long history of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Governor Kelly’s silence thus far speaks for itself.

It’s past due time that Governor Kelly follow through on her campaign promises.

Conservative Colyer welcomes Schmidt to Governor race

March 9, 2021
Overland Park - Earlier today, former governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. released the following statement:

"I welcome Derek Schmidt to the Governor’s race.

It’s good that Kansas voters will now have a clear choice between me, the conservative candidate, and Derek Schmidt who has spent over twenty years carrying water for the most liberal elements of the Kansas Republican Party.

I started my public service working for President Reagan, a conservative hero.

Derek Schmidt worked for two US Senators—one of whom served in the Obama Cabinet and the other endorsed Barbara Bollier last year and Laura Kelly before that.

Throughout my service in the Legislature and in the executive branch I’ve been 100% pro-life, pro-Second Amendment and against tax increases.

I’m the authentic conservative in this race.

There’s a big difference in our records and our approaches to issues.

I look forward to a great campaign."

Mary Eisenhower to serve as Jeff Colyer's 2022 campaign Treasurer

March 5, 2021
Abilene - Mary Eisenhower, former CEO of People to People International and granddaughter of the 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower, has joined Dr. Jeff Colyer’s 2022 Governor campaign as Treasurer.

“I am thrilled Mary has joined our campaign and humbled to be associated with such a great example of principled, successful Republican leadership.  Kansas has lost over 35,000 private sector jobs since I left office. It’s time to get Kansas back to work. Kansas needs an authentic, effective conservative in the governorship,” said Dr. Jeff Colyer, who served as Kansas’ 47th Governor in 2018 and is the longest-serving Lieutenant Governor in state history.

“Jeff Colyer is the leader we need, and I’ve seen great leadership up close,” said Eisenhower. “He can unite the Republican Party, win the Governorship, and lead our ticket to success up and down the ballot. Kansas made a mistake in 2018, and it’s time to fix that mistake.  Jeff Colyer is the man for the moment.”

“Jeff has solved problems in Kansas and across the world.  He is the ideal candidate to lead us past this pandemic and into a new era of prosperity and Kansas Excellence,” Eisenhower concluded.

Mary Eisenhower joining the team cements Dr. Colyer’s place in the top tier of Republican Governor recruits nationally and presents one of the best opportunities anywhere on the map for Republican gains in 2022.
